 The Definition of Democracy

Democracy  is source from two words in Yunani language: demos and cratos. The meaning of demos is people or citizen, and cratos is a government or power. The sense of democracy is the power of citizen. The definition of democracy is a government system that is rooted from people, by people, and for people. Its a viewpoint or political concepts in the government that concerned the citizen or people on the basis  of rights and  obligation.

There are some definition of democracy according to some experts:

·         Abraham Lincoln: Democracy is a government from people, by people, and for people.

·         Joseph A Schmeter: Democracy is an institutional design to reach political decision where individuals acquire the power to determine a completitive fight or popular vote.

·         Sidney Hook: Democracy is a form of government where the important government regulations directly or indirectly are based on majority agreement that freely given to adult society.

·         Aristoteles: Democracy is a freedom of every citizen to share the power. According to Aristoteles, the principle of democracy is the independence. Because only by the independence, every citizen are can share the power in their country.

·         Ir. Soekarno: According to Ir Soekarno the founding father of Indonesia, democracy is the government of citizen. Its about how to form a government that giving the rights for people to take part in the government process.

Based on the definition of democracy from some experts above, in short democracy is a government system where the people take a part  in determining government decision.

 

The Principles of Democracy

 

There is some principles for the country that can be called as democracy country: resolving a dispute peacefully, guaranting the peace transformation in the society, organizing the alteration of leader regularly, restricting the application of hardness, conciding the diversity, and assuring the inforcement of justice.

The first principle of democracy is resolving a dispute peacefully, everyone that live in the society never runs off from a problem. In society life, a problem is the thing that must be happening. The solution to finish it peacefully is by the discussion. The society will discuss and determine solutions together. This is the one way for resolving dispute in the democracy country.

The next principle is guaranting the peace transformation in the society. Commonly, as time goes on people’s lives in the society are changing. Usually, this changes include the big change or small change such as the changing of vehicle technology, clothing, building houses, communication devices, playgame, attitude, lifestyle, and language. This principle is guaranting for all people to choose what the change they need.

Furthermore, the important principles of democracy’s country is an election. The election is an method in the society for selecting their leader. Its inforceable in some periods of government that indicate the symbol of democracy party.

Moreover, in the democracy’s country the peace is guaranteed for all people, so that violance threatening the peace and public security are severely banned. This applied to restrict the application of hardness.

In the certain of country life, the community of environment is made up all kinds of people with diversity. These include religion, culture, race, language, conduct, etc. Furthermore, this diversity makes them compactly because they assumed that variety is the spice of life and democracy’s country is considing the diversity.

The last principle of democracy is the same right and obligation before the law. This meaning all of people are same before the law and entitled to legal protection without any discrimination. Based on it. Everyone has to be treated equally before the law regardless of race, gender, nation, religion, and color or other characteristic without priviledge, discrimination, or bias gender.
